Sam is a 8yr old Shepherd/Chow mix who found himself in a very high kill shelter in Georgia. Luckily, a rescuer came in and saw the diamond in the ruff when she looked at Sam. He was skinny with missing patches of fur and scabs on his body and the warden could not believe that she wanted to save this boy. Well, it turned out that Sam has a thyroid issue that was causing him to have lots of dry skin and missing fur. He has done very well on his medication and the good news is that it is not expensive. He just needs one pill per/day. He is very affectionate and calm. Loves kids and seems fine with other dogs but would also do well as the only dog. He does not like small rodents . Sam does fine with cats that are dog savy but would not do well with timid cats....he would stalk them. One of my cats rub against him and he is fine with that but if the cat ran (my cat would not give a dog the satisfaction) he would definitely chase.
